Adult space before supplies
Start with the species’ adult housing requirements, the usable space and behaviours the enclosure must support. Measure the planned location; geometric volume alone cannot describe an appropriate habitat.
The lighting plan
Read the species guidance on heating and lighting, then the exact lamps and fixtures’ instructions. Record the full equipment arrangement and how it will be checked, rather than treating a bulb percentage as a complete plan.
Life stage and diet
Research the diet for the animal’s life stage and consult a suitable vet for individual needs. Keep food and supplement instructions explicit on the handover card. This page does not prescribe quantities or timing.
Care over time
Plan routine upkeep, equipment replacement according to manufacturer guidance and veterinary access. Confirm who can care for the animal when you are away, and practise the handover before it is needed.
